heidefisch wins the Seafood Star 2026

Wietzendorf, 04.11.2025 – Heidefisch GmbH has won the Seafood Star 2026 in the "Outstanding Commitment to Sustainability" category, the prestigious award from the specialist magazine FischMagazin. The award honors companies that set standards in the fish industry through innovative concepts, exemplary quality and exceptional customer focus.
Since 2008, the Seafood Star has recognized exemplary companies, fishmongers, and restaurants. The jury – consisting of industry experts – evaluates not only the product range and store concept but also sustainability, customer loyalty, and profitability.
Role model for sustainable fish farming in Germany
Heidefisch GmbH stands for responsible fish farming with the highest standards for animal welfare, resource conservation, and sustainability. With an annual production of around 900 tons of trout, Heidefisch is Germany's largest fish farm and, with 100 tons of trout caviar per year, is one of the five largest producers in Europe.
Heidefisch was the first German fish farm to receive ASC certification in 2016. Since 2023, the company has also been listed as a RAS system (Recirculating Aquaculture System) with the ASC – proof of its particularly resource-saving production method. Through continuous technical innovations, the water exchange rate could be reduced to only 5% by 2025 – a value that almost corresponds to a closed-loop system.
Energy efficiency and climate protection as the core of the corporate strategy
Heidefisch consistently relies on renewable energies and energy-efficient production processes. A wood chip heating system ensures CO₂-neutral heat supply, while the expansion of photovoltaic systems further increases electricity generation. This makes sustainable aquaculture a living example of climate protection.
Regional, transparent and customer-oriented
In its in-house factory outlet at the Meinholz site near Wietzendorf, Heidefisch exclusively offers self-bred, ASC-certified trout as well as high-quality trout caviar. Thanks to the combination of first-class quality and fair prices, the factory outlet enjoys steadily growing popularity among customers.
From November 27th, the factory outlet will reopen its doors, inviting customers to enjoy sustainable fish directly from the producer. The products of Heidefisch GmbH are also conveniently available online at www.heidefisch.de.
An award for commitment and innovative spirit
“The Seafood Star confirms that consistent sustainability, economic viability, and quality can be combined,” explains Managing Director Heide Winkelmann. “We are delighted that our work is perceived as an impetus for future-proof fish farming.”
With this award, Heidefisch underlines its pioneering role in sustainable aquaculture and sets a strong example for responsible food production in Germany.
